State's chamber execs elect Moline to board
By James Roth, jroth@acnpapers.com
Tony Moline has only been the president and CEO of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce for nine months; however, his work has led him to be elected to the board of directors of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE).
TCCE is the professional society of chamber of commerce executives, staff and affiliate members offering professional development, training and operational consultation to communities across the state. Moline said during his time on the board he will help set policies and develop and oversee the strategic plan of the organization.
"I love to serve my community, but to have an opportunity to serve the state of Texas as well is really special," Moline said. "I was voted on the board by other chamber executives from across the state after I was recommended. It is a great honor for me to a part of the board."
As part of the team that brought the statewide convention to the Coppell area in 2011, Moline has helped create the most successful professional development events in the history of the 100-year-old association. Now, as part of TCCE, Moline hopes to take that same success statewide by implementing the same ideas that helped make Coppell successful.
"If you would have told me in May when I got here that in nine months I would be on a state board, I would have laughed," he said. "To be able to have this opportunity is great, and I am looking forward to serving in this capacity. I feel lucky to be a part of a team that sets the strategic plans for the organization for the upcoming years."
In addition to being named to TCCE, Moline also recently graduated from Institute for Organization Management, which is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The four-year program taught Moline about how to be a nonprofit manager and professional in the chamber of commerce field.
"This program was a great way to network and learn from different people," Moline said. "Graduating was bittersweet. I am excited to be done with it and have it under my belt; however, I am going to miss the connections I made with the others taking the course."
Moline said the skills he learned has helped the Coppell Chamber of Commerce run more efficiently and has helped the outreach in the community.
"The course really covers the gamut of running a nonprofit organization," he said. "The Chamber University Program where we help businesses by giving them the skills they need to run more efficiently came from networking in this course."
Moving forward in 2012, Moline looks to continue to grow the Coppell Chamber of Commerce and help out in the community as much as possible by offering workshops and lending help to businesses in need.
"I am excited what this year has in store for us," he said. "I have said it before: Coppell has been one of the most inviting communities I have ever been a part of. I am excited to be able to continue to serve, and I think 2012 will be a banner year for us."
